I wonder what the battery life is going to be like on this beast. It's going to scratch like mad unless they've got a new material for the front surface. And because it's all touch sensitive, no hard plastic cases.
Hmm, Intriguing ...

Ugh, that is not helpful. That article does not offer a method identical to the one I listed above. Again, I said what I wanted to do. It's written above. I want to know if that will or will not work.

I just got my BSE order today (bought it when they did 10% discount + free shipping). I got a open envelope and packing slip, no screen protectors. It appears they didn't seal the envelope when sending, because the adhesive to seal the envelope is unused.
Do you think BSE forgot to put them in there, or someone from the post office jacked em?
Has anyone else received an order like this?
I just received mine and no such thing. Just email them. They have a really good support staff.

Furthermore, Apple said the touch sensitive bezel can be used to obtain touch data corresponding to multiple user controls simultaneously: "For example, the user controls of the bezel can be configured so that one side of the bezel controls brightness with a touch and drag motion by the user, while the other side of the bezel controls contrast with a touch and drag motion by the user. Thus, using both of these sides of the bezel, the user can simultaneously adjust both the contrast and the brightness of the display using touch and drag motions on the sides of the bezel."

I think we'll be seeing this technology in the bevels of all future Macs and displays. Imagine Mr. Jobs' smug little grin when he adjusts the contrast and brightness of an iMac or Macbook display with a stroke of his finger and knows that no other PC or monitor manufacturer can use it!

Happy Birthday, and welcome to MacRumors!
I have an iPod Classic myself, and I don't see myself getting rid of it - although an iPod Touch or iPhone is really nice, both for playing music and for apps.
The reason I bought the Classic is simple storage - my library is too big to fit on a Touch. I also don't care to listen to music with my phone (mostly because of battery life). My iPod spends most of its time plugged in in my truck, although I do take it out when I fly or otherwise ready to spend a fair amount of time want to listen to music uninterrupted.
As for refreshes, those typically come around September, for back-to-school sales, but there's no guarantee they'll do it again this year.

Speed I would have to check on, like I said this is not my laptop. I would prefer if needed you to do the work. I have no problem stripping any of the pc's apart to work on them, laptops or desktops that is. But macs I have stayed away from. Get me your contact info, and I will give you a call and we can discuss this. Thanks.

I was at work in the City of London. Actually I remember I had just popped out to buy a birthday card for a friend so I was in a card shop at Leadenhall Market when I first heard the news on the radio. When I got back to the office a few mins later there were people gathered in reception watching the news reports on tv and everyone was so horrified. Later that afternoon we were all sent home as there were fears of potential attacks on London - particularly around the financial centres in the City & Canary Wharf.

This 'll probably vary by the local culture by country, but I live in a country where sim locking has been illegal until recently,(so we're not used to cheap smartphones with expensize contracts) while in the US traditionally most phones were/are simlocking offered "subsidized" by a carrier.
If you' re used to a cheap subsidized phone(with expensize carrier contract), you're less likely to pay 700 for an iPhone 32GB(though since I choose my own carrier it's cheaper in the long run.
I do think Apple should ofer sim-lock free iPhones worldwide, but if you can get cheap subsidized Blackberries,Androids,Nokias,... it's not the smartest move commercially.

I'll tell you what I've told everybody, this is not an AT&T problem. I have the Atrix and I have NEVER dropped a call in Saint Louis. My wife's Samsung Focus never has dropped a call in six months either. My friend has the iPhone 4 and another has the 3GS in Saint Louis and they CONSTANTLY cannot connect Call Failed or drop calls.
It's the iPhone man.

Oh don't tell them their perfect company doesn't make the perfect phone... they so want it to be AT&T's fault and not Apple's.
I remember when I first got my iphone (I'd been on AT&T/Cingular for years before that) I did notice a tendency to notice voicemails that appeared hours later than when they were given and the phone hadn't rang on me. And I know I ran into at least a customer at my store who had the same issue (we had called her to tell her her dog was ready and she hadn't recieved it... and then the voicemail popped up while she was in the store). I will admit that did improve so maybe Cingular was having issues getting voicemail to work with that particular phone at first (or maybe Apple's update to the iOS fixed it. I know the iOS it came with was very unstable, least for Safari and iOS 2.0 fixed stability issues)? But it definitely was something I had a problem with that phone that I didn't with others on the same provider.
I also noticed that it didn't have as good reception out on the water (when we fished) than other cellphones I've had on AT&T so you do have to be closer to signal with it (least with the 3G, I haven't had a chance to compare with the 4).
(disclaimer, I love my iphone but I'm pretty sure any issues is with the iphone and not with AT&T).
And I'll tell you what I've told everybody else. I had verizon for years. No dropped calls and signal in locations other carriers had none. I got the iphone in November on ATT. Weaker signal. Not only my phone, but in my office, my home and family's homes, non-iphones on ATT have worse signal.
If you are in the heart of a city and not in a particular building, then ATT is just fine. But go to certain areas in rural america and Verizon is much better.
So for my experience ATT is the problem.
Your experience doesn't amount to a hill of beans for proof. You did not have the same phone on Verizon to compare that it worked fine on Verizon so you can't say the phone would work fine on Verizon using your experience. And then you went on the iphone when you went on AT&T but it was the only phone you've used on AT&T so you don't know if that experience is consistant with different phones... so where is the proof that it was AT&T and not the iphone? You don't know because you had both a different phone and provider when you switched to AT&T so the problem could be with either.
Get back to us when you have the iphone on Verizon or at least have had another phone on AT&T (to see if you have the same problem with a different phone on AT&T).

i couldnt stand that guy man. always posting all this pc news and just generally baiting everyone. grrr.
i think the jefhatfield thing is a trick question. IIRC jefhatfield IS his original name, but he used a different one for a while after his posts became TOO prolific.
and the avatar, that was the sexy shiny one right? yeah that started a craze. personally i think b2tm's was the best.

From what you are showing, it looks like an array of either NSNumbers or NSStrings. You might try concatenating the values in the array together to form a block of data that NSImage would be able to convert.
If it is NSNumbers, you should be able to just walk a pointer through a data block for each number. If it is hex-encoded strings, you would have to use a NSScanner to convert them to numbers (-scanHexInt:).

If you want to use an internal port with an external enclosure, there's a special cable you'd need to get for this. If you want to use the external port (keep in mind, this typically shares ports with an internal connector in past models, such as the 1680 series), you'd need to buy one. Either way, these do not come with the card, and you'd only need to get them if you're planning on running an external enclosure/s.
Nanofrog, could you please tell me what is the special cable that I need to get to use the 2nd SFF-8087 internal port on the Areca 1880 to connect an external enclosure?

Plug in the external FireWire drive and pop in your system restore disc. Restore to the external drive, and when it asks if you want to copy yoru files and settings from another Mac OS X installtion, tell it yes. One of the options is to migrate from "another partition on the same computer." It'll copy over all your files, applications, user settings...everything.
That, or you could go the CCC route. Whichever.

I think that was pre-announcement. I read where trading was halted until 4:50 EDT. Still have 7 minutes to see if the "soft" iPad numbers cause the weak hands to sell.
I'm guessing that Apple will drop about 3% from the 4PM close with people focusing on the iPad numbers.
Still trading, AFAIK. 2.6% now.

I've long been stuck on analog NTSC crap, and I'm considering buying a Sony HDR-FX1, which is a high-definition video camera. However, when I try to play back the 1080i movie trailers from Apple's site, it's slightly choppy. If my PowerBook has a hard time handling HD playback, will I be able to capture HD in FinalCut Pro?
